This is the second book in a series. I read this and the first one in order and now regret spending the time on them. Both books and my guess is the series, are trademarked by personal interactions populated by studiously quirky characters backgrounded with mild legal cases. The forefront characters are Solomon and Lord modeled on Tracy and Hepburn or Nick and Nora but in no way are comparable. To say that Solomon and Lord are pale imitations of their models is to shower the current generation couple with undeserved praise.The structure is the three Solomons, father, son and nephew are replicas of the Marx brothers playing against a straight world. The comedy is supposed to be generated by the nephew being an idiot-savant who amazingly lost his idiocy between the first and second volumes, the father existing as a crusty ‘alter cocker’ living on a junky houseboat and the son being an over the top obnoxious character in a New York City sort of way.In both books, the united team consisting of the core Marx Brothers Imitators allied with some gentile straight players get enmeshed in a legal case that sorts itself out in the background while the players squabble in the foreground. There are no likable or relatable characters – only wisecracking perps and dupes. After two books, I am only left wishing my short reading time back so I can use it taking a long hot shower rinsing off the feeling these books left with me.Deal me out. The biggest turnoff with this one was trying to take a book seriously when two of the major "players" are named Princess and Junior. Who over the age of ten goes by those names, even with family members? I also have a problem with a mature, professional adult female who still calls a close but non-family member "Uncle" so-and-so. If it wasn't for those three simple problems, this might actually have rated four stars.
